Kim Kardashian shares that one of her sons has vitiligo.

On the She MD podcast on Monday, July 15, Kim Kardashian revealed that one of her sons has vitiligo while discussing her own struggle with psoriasis. The 43-year-old SKIMS founder shared that her psoriasis is hereditary and comes from her mother, but one of her sons inherited a different genetic condition: vitiligo. She also noted that her children with Kanye West have “a little bit of eczema” as well.

While Kim didn’t specify whether Saint, 8, or Psalm, 5, has vitiligo, she mentioned that the condition is currently “under control.” “I passed it on in a different form to my son, who has vitiligo very mildly,” she explained during the interview, according to Page Six. “I didn’t know anything about it, but having to learn about it, understanding where it comes from and that it’s hereditary, and being able to share that knowledge has been a blessing.”

Vitiligo is an autoimmune disorder that “causes patches of skin to lose pigment or color,” according to the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases. The institute notes that in vitiligo, the white patches often appear symmetrically on both sides of the body, such as on both hands or knees. There can also be a rapid loss of color that may affect larger areas of skin.
